Street Art Cities

This work shows the development of Spijkenisse from a village to a city. The team researched the history of the city and worked many elements of it into the mural. The introduction of the tram and later the metro connection were important events in the timeline of the city and stand as symbols for progress in this work. The painting also shows some of the historic bridges that connected Spijkenisse to the surrounding areas.

Some details in the artwork include the font that was used in the old tramstation, and the heron, seagull and king fisher that refer to the nature around the city but also to the names of the old tram carriages. The rays of the sun point to the position of the city on the map.

Dit werk toont de ontwikkeling van Spijkenisse van een dorp naar een stad. Het team onderzocht de geschiedenis van de stad en verwerkte vele elementen hiervan in de muurschildering. De komst van de tram en later de metroverbinding waren belangrijke gebeurtenissen in de het tijdpad van de stad en symboliseren in dit werk de ontwikkeling. De schildering toont ook enkele van de historische bruggen die Spijkenisse met de omliggende gebieden verbonden.

Enkele voorbeelden van details in het werk zijn het lettertype dat ook gebruikt is bij de oude tramhalte, en de reiger, meeuw en de ijsvogel die niet alleen verwijzen naar de natuur rondom de stad, maar ook naar de namen van de oude tramstellen. De zonnestralen wijzen naar de plek van de stad op de landkaart.
