The artwork was created by Tom Onrust with the help of his friends Zep van Tienen and Wouter van Foose. The town of Roosendaal used to be known as ‘Haviksdonk’, with the hawk symbolizing truth, vigilance and awareness."

Tom Onrust studied fine art at St Joost School of Art & Design and created the design of the hawk in shades of blue. For the mural, he used sustainable wall paint, the raw materials for which were recovered from waste paint.

Onrust chose the hawk as a symbol of power and strength. “In Roosendaal, we keep falling back on the same symbols: the Tullepetaon, St John’s Cathedral, Admiral Loncke. I wanted to counter that with something new and powerful. Also to make it clear to young people that you must take matters into your own hands to shape your future.”

Tom Onrust studeerde aan St. Joost School of Art & Design voor beeldend kunstenaar en heeft het ontwerp van de havik in blauwtinten gemaakt. Voor de wandschildering gebruikt hij een duurzame muurverf, waarvan de grondstoffen herwonnen zijn uit restverf.

Onrust koos voor havik als symbool van macht en kracht. “In Roosendaal vallen we steeds weer terug op dezelfde symbolen: de Tullepetaon, de Sint Jan, admiraal Loncke. Daar wilde ik iets tegenoverstellen, een nieuw en krachtig beeld. Ook om jongeren duidelijk te maken dat je zelf aan de slag moet om je toekomst te bepalen."
