PEZ (Spanish for fish), born 1976, is a Spanish graffiti artist. In 1999 he began painting in his hometown of Barcelona. Initially it was just “tags” (signature abbreviations representing the pseudonym of a writer or crew), which gradually transformed into the shape of a smiling blue fish, that made him famous. He has now spread his grinfish all over the world. As part of the design of the Cologne-Ehrenfeld railway embankment in May 2013, PEZ painted this huge mural with countless grinning figures in all shapes and colors. 
 

PEZ (Spanisch für Fisch), geb. 1976, ist ein spanischer Graffiti-Künstler. 1999 begann er in seiner Heimatstadt Barcelona zu malen. Anfänglich waren es nur „Tags“ (Signaturkürzel, die das Pseudonym eines Writers oder einer Crew), die sich nach und nach in die Form eines lächelnden blauen Fisches verwandelten, das machte ihn berühmt. Inzwischen hat er seinen Grinsefisch in der ganzen Welt verbreitet. Im Rahmen der Gestaltung des Köln-Ehrenfelder Bahndamms im Mai 2013 malte PEZ dieses riesige Mural mit unzähligen grinsenden Gestalten in allen Formen und Farben.
