The old velvet weaving mill generates social and financial benefits for the colorful neighborhood that surrounds it in the south-west of Krefeld, where around 6,800 people live: the velvet weaver district. It generates funds for community work, and its tenants are involved in district projects. 

The Samtweberviertel should remain and become a colorful, democratic and open place of arrival and peaceful coexistence.
