This mural is dedicated to none other then the great painter Tanner - "Henry Ossawa Tanner is the Jackie Robinson of the art world, the Barack Obama of painting," Johnston (the muralist) said at the dedication of his mural. This piece of art is make up of text by Johnston and students from St. Gabriel's Hall (a residential treatment center for adjudicated male youths) about what Tanner's life and work meant to them. This struggling African American artist that went unrecognized for his art is now getting the recognition and praise he deserves.
