Description

This concrete embossed mural at the entrance to a pedestrian underpass was originally created by the artist Helga Windle in 1995. By the time it was over 25 years old, it was very faded, and the local council wanted to restore it. They also wanted to do something in the underpass, as the graffiti in there was a real problem.

Sadly, by this time, Helga had died. So the council put out a request for an artist to restore it, and to help local school children and their parents to help with the restoration. They were also hoping to get the children who were involved with the original mural, along with their children too.

Katie O did the restoration, and helped the community with the murals. As of February 2026, nearly 4 years since the restoration, the murals remain graffiti free. The names of all those involved have faded, but the schools Boughton Leigh First School and Avon Valley School do remain legible.
