The design assignment for the 2011/2012 class of the Gdańsk School of Mural was to create a mural inspired by Polish painting. After a series of unsuccessful attempts in the form of pop-style interpretations of Matejko, Kossak, and Chełmoński, the breakthrough came with a shift in focus toward 20th-century painting. This led to the creation of a diptych, visually connected by a ribbon, based on a concept by Professor Jacek Zdybel and incorporating direct quotations from 20th-century Polish painters Tomasz Tatarkiewicz, Jan Tarasin, Stefan Gierowski, and Jan Dobkowski.
