“Interlude” is about teen pregnancy and young mothers. 8 500 teenage girls become mothers every year in Romania, which makes it the country with the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe. Behind the numbers, there’s a whole story about abortion, abandonment, and lives that might have turned out differently, had it been possible to implement sexual education and planned parenthood programs. It’s a sad reality that the mural painting is trying to capture, thus raising awareness about this pressing, yet not fully acknowledged problem.
