La Shamana

“La shamana” is a mural that celebrates Houston as an innovation hub. Of course, we all have in mind the achievements in space, but Houston is also known for its innovation in the health care sector and more recently for the incredible work of Dr. Maria Elena Bottazzi who was part of the dynamic duo who developed the free-patent “World’s COVID-19 Vaccine“, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022. The mural is dedicated to the incredible work done by Dr Bottazzi and to all women in science! It comes in support of the United Nations ’ Sustainable development goal 5 that focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
This powerful and colorful mural represents a Latina woman surrounded by the elements: the sea, the stars, the flora and the fauna, and holding a flask where she creates her magical potion. She is the link between all elements and her potion is the healing mixture that creates the balance in the universe.

Houston Bigger Change Murals is an unprecedented series of 9 large murals curated by Street Art for Mankind and created by prominent international and local artists to amplify awareness on social and environmental issues in Houston and beyond.
