The graffiti artist Nychos spent 78 days working on his largest mural to date in the port of Linz. June 22, he applied the final layer of paint, completing the 1,000-square-meter artwork.
Liberation of the Soul is now on display at Mural Harbor. On the façade of the new pharmaceutical hall of Linz AG in the port, a complete story is now presented.
After a personal crisis, from which he emerged through meditation and shamanism, Nychos now wants to share his personal journey in the spirit of traditional Mexican muralism. “This is a completely different process than with The Translucent Serpent. There was only one protagonist in that work—here, there are multiple overlapping levels,” Nychos explained at the start of the project.
The completed mural, Liberation of the Soul, evolved from the artist's thoughts and ideas.
The Stiermarken native has already enriched Mural Harbor with several artworks, including The Translucent Serpent, his previous largest mural. After overcoming a personal crisis through meditation and shamanism, he now seeks to narrate his journey in the tradition of Mexican muralism. “This is a completely different process than with The Serpent. That work had only one protagonist—here, there are overlapping levels,” Nychos explained.
This is also why his current project took about five weeks or even longer, compared to just five days for The Serpent. With Liberation of the Soul, he aims to depict the stages of consciousness as a kind of timeline across an 80-meter length, exploring pain, suffering, and the physical experience of reality—culminating in a form of liberation.
