# 600 Thousand Heroes is the name of the actual action, which was to save the life of Ani Szymczak. The 34-year-old from Wrocław worked at the Polytechnic, she had a husband and a 3.5-year-old daughter. In August 2015, she heard a diagnosis that sounded like a leukemia and lymphoma. The only chance was a blood stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. Despite over 890 thousand potential donors in the Polish database and 25 million in the world there was no person who would be called genetic twin of a woman. The whole of Wroclaw fought for Ania - the offices, organizations, schools, media and authorities of Wrocław were involved, encouraging the residents to register as potential donors of bone marrow.
Ania Szymczak died on November 3, the day before the beginning of the action
