Swift

Painted as part of Hit the North 2023 with Hennessy

The artist says...

"I chose to paint a swift because they are currently, like a lot of birds and animals, endangered. They have declined by over 50% and numbers are still falling.
They spend nearly all their life on the wing and return to the same nests every year.
With a lot of building demolition, renovation and roof repair- swifts are losing their nests. There was a petition recently to make it compulsory for new builds (where possible) to include swift bricks. This is already happening in some councils in UK and in Europe.Over 100,000 signatures were collected and so this will be debated in parliament - although as we know, the government do not prioritise nature :(
We shall wait to see the outcome......."
