Description

The Liniestraat forms the external border of the Linie neighbourhood. At the request of local residents, the area wasn’t demolished but redeveloped by housing corporation Alleewonen (now Alwel), in cooperation with the residents. There is d.i.y. housing, a neighbourhood salon, and various cultural events in partnership with Electron. Belgian artist Dzia took inspiration from the origin of the area, a polder where many birds breed. The flamingo depicts the colourful character of the neighbourhood. Whilst applying the white ground coat, DZIA immediately got many responses from the residents. They really liked his ‘swan’. After painting the toucan he found his inspiration for the final bird. Together the three bids represent the creative, colourful and diverse feel of the neighbourhood, with a small nod to the past.

Update 06-07-2026 : The houses on which the toucan and the swan were painted have been demolished as part of redevelopment of the area. Another swan has been painted by the artist on another house nearby. The flamingo is the only bird that survived the redevelopment. You can still find it on the map as well as the new swan.
