Tree of Life

From the artist's Instagram post about the art work: Someone once told me "Vision yourself as a tree, stay grounded with steady roots, and let your mind and thoughts be free, like a crown swaying in the wind."

Just like trees, the vase is a powerful metaphor for life itself, exploring how it mirrors peoples experience of containing memories, emotions and thoughts. In many traditions, the vase is a symbol for liberation and transformation, and the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

When I started painting murals in 2016, my main inspiration was textile storytelling and patterns. Since painting #kronobergsgatan35 has been a long-term goal, I felt an urge to reconnect to what first inspired me making art. The patterns in this mural draws inspiration from Tatreez, a traditional Palestinian embroidery technique, passed down from mothers to daughters. I've been looking at stitches like the olive branch, ears of corns and bunches of grapes, tree-motifs with meanings such as peace, connection to land and resilience. The powerful shapes and storys of this handicraft absolutely blew me away, and seeing craftivists around the world stitching tatreez in solidarity with Palestine, gives a glimpse of humanity in all madness.
