Camaron cantando

It is a project launched by the Ministry of Development and Housing, through the Housing and Rehabilitation Agency of Andalusia (AVRA) in the context of the Habitar 2.0 interterritorial cooperation program. Three cultures and a single neighborhood, funded by the European Union. The project, which aims to improve the image of the neighborhood and contribute to the personal development of young people in the area, has been coordinated by the Delimbo art gallery.

It is located in one of the most marginalized neighborhoods of Seville, not frequented by tourists.

The initiative began with a series of theoretical and practical workshops aimed at young people aged 14 to 17 in the area, but soon the project was supported by the neighbors and different associations of Martínez Montañés. "We wanted to create a space for exchange, to give and at the same time receive. The initiative did not make sense without the involvement of the neighbors, and, for this, we have the collaboration of Pedro Molina, president of the Winners Association, a very beloved and respected person in the neighborhood. Without it, the project would not have gone ahead, "explains Carlos Cremades, coordinator of the proposal. "When television cameras come, it's always for something negative. We need more initiatives like these to break down existing stereotypes. We want our friends to come to the neighborhood to visit us," says Bernardino Molina, one of the young people who participated in the initiative.

Repo immortalized Camarónen full singing. "The neighbors themselves said enough and, together, we set up an abandoned turret that was a drug smoker. This is where we decided to put Camarón, whom everyone respects, and, since then, no one enters here," says Pedro Molina, president of the Winners Association. This mural has attracted the attention not only of the neighbors, but also of flamenco figures, such as Remedios Amaya, who have personally come to see it.

According to Carlos Cremades, the organization and order prevailed during all the days that the project lasted, as well as the good coexistence, staged with a gypsy stew that united neighbors and artists. "The neighbors of Martínez Montañés are the great forgotten ones, especially on the part of the Public Administration. There are very hard-in fighters here and we need more interventions of this kind. Street educators who work one-on-one with the people of the neighborhood, not from the offices," says Pedro Molina. "The neighborhood has changed a lot. It is true that drugs and precariousness still exist, but there is a lot of desire to do new things."
