Closure

Created by Case Maclaim, this mural marks the final artwork in a three-year public art project that brought 50 murals to Wuppertal, organized by Urbaner KunstRaum Wuppertal (UKW) and project lead VAL. Having painted the very first mural of the series, Case returned to create the final piece to close the project.

The conceptual artwork references the German idiom "sich in die eigene Tasche lügen" (literally "lying into your own pocket"), which describes the act of self-deception or choosing comforting illusions over uncomfortable truths. By depicting the symbolic act of sewing the pockets shut, the mural serves as a statement against self-deception and a refusal to embrace false illusions.
