By Eau Claire artist, Brittany Tainter @giizhigdesignco and Brooke Newmaster @barookoo at Lismore Hotel, 333 Gibson Street, (near corner of Farwell St and East Grand Ave), Eau Claire, Wisconsin in August 2020. Photos taken June 2021.

'The now-completed mural features the faces of Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery, as well as Emmett Till, Dominique “Rem’mie” Fells, and Marsha P. Johnson, and their loved ones – though they remain in black-and-white as an intentional choice, according to Tainter.
⠀⠀⠀
“I wanted the difference of that against the really bright colors to show that when we lose these folks in the world, the world is losing a part of itself and a part of its color,” Tainter said.'

⠀⠀⠀
'“Everybody
on the mural has been a victim of some kind of discrimination,” Tainter says. “We have police brutality victims, people who have lost their lives because they were transgender, other folks based on race.”
⠀⠀⠀
For some community members, the mural is a way to show solidarity with the black community.
⠀⠀⠀
“It’s good to see everyone standing up for a common cause, you know. Fighting racism,” says Andrew Lindo of Eau Claire.
⠀⠀⠀
While others have pushed for the mural to be removed from the Lismore Hotel. However, general manager Rita Dorsey says that will not happen.
⠀⠀⠀
“My response to them is that if they feel that black lives don’t matter, that we’re probably not the right business for them to patronize and that they should find somewhere else,” Dorsey says.
