Fieptunnel

Description

The Fiep Westendorp tunnel (known locally as the Fiepstunnel) is a colorful bicycle tunnel in Zaltbommel decorated with famous illustrations by Fiep Westendorp, the creator of Jip and Janneke. The tunnel opened on July 13, 2016, to mark the centenary of her birth and runs underneath the N322 provincial road.

About the Fiepstunnel

  • Location: Underneath the N322 (Van Heemstraweg) in Zaltbommel.

  • Opening: July 13, 2016, exactly 100 years after Fiep Westendorp was born.

  • Design: The walls feature large, cheerful murals showing characters from the famous illustrator.

  • Purpose: A safe and playful crossing for cyclists and pedestrians under the busy main road.
