The organization WOM Lombok is dedicated to improving and developing the Lombok district in Utrecht. In September 2025, the organization celebrated its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, this mural was created in collaboration with the Municipality of Utrecht and housing corporation Bo-Ex.

Jan went door to door along the street, ringing residents’ doorbells and taking a look inside their homes. He asked each of them which object they would like to see depicted in the mural.

In the top left, for example, you can see blue-painted coral in a vase, brought along by a woman from Eastern Europe. To the right of that, various board games are depicted.

When you first look at the doodle grid and then at the final mural, you’ll notice that the bricks are not real but entirely painted. It’s beautifully done. Many people will admire the mural without realizing that the brick walls are, in fact, painted.

Once the mural was finished, it turned out that a set of eyes had suddenly appeared on an installation on the roof…

De organisatie WOM Lombok zet zich in voor de verbetering en ontwikkeling van de Utrechtse wijk Lombok. In september 2025 vierde de organisatie haar 25-jarig bestaan. Ter ere hiervan is in samenwerking met de gemeente Utrecht en woningcorporatie Bo-Ex deze muurschildering tot stand gekomen.

Jan is langs de huizen in de straat gegaan, heeft bij bewoners aangebeld en binnen een kijkje genomen. Daarbij vroeg hij welk voorwerp zij graag op de schildering terug wilden zien.

Linksboven staat bijvoorbeeld blauw geverfd koraal in een vaas, meegenomen door een vrouw uit het Oostblok. Rechts daarvan zijn verschillende gezelschapsspellen afgebeeld.

Wanneer je eerst het doodlegrid bekijkt en daarna de uiteindelijke schildering, zie je dat de stenen niet echt zijn, maar volledig zijn nageschilderd. Dat is prachtig gedaan. Veel mensen zullen de muurschildering bekijken zonder te beseffen dat de stenen muren in werkelijkheid geschilderd zijn.

Toen de schildering voltooid was, bleken er ineens ogen te zijn aangebracht op een installatie op het dak…….
