Untitled ('Sleeping, Giant, Rolling Mountains')

Jacoba Niepoort did this magnificent artwork in the summer of 2021, for the streetart project 'Gøtulist'. The artwork is located on the side of 'Hotel Tórshavn', an historical building which used to be the 'Sailors house'.

From Jacoba's post on social media.
'I spent most of July painting on the Faroe Islands, on a project organized together with @gotulistfo . This wall is in downtown Torshavn, painted on a building that is now Hotel Torshavn but which used to house sailors' families while the men were out at sea.  The hotel personelle requested I limit nudity for this mural and so I took inspiration from the islands’ sleeping, giant, rolling mountains and the poems of Faroese William Heinesen, who writes incredibly beautifully about nature, constant change, life and death.

This project had its fair share of new challenges, including painting on ultrasmooth nonabsorbent plastic sheets in 98% humidity.'
