In this community art project the neighborhood wanted to see nature, something that would be in line with the environment. The oak tree, with the jay in it, refers to the history of Waalwijk. Because of the availability of lots of water and oak trees in Waalwijk the leather tanning industry was able to flourish here. This again gave rise to the shoe industry. The jay is the bird most responsible for the distribution of acorns and thus also for the distribution of oak trees.
