<div>This pedestrian and bicycle tunnel has had a wonderful make-over. The municipality of Tilburg thoroughly cleaned the tunnel and replaced the fluorescent lighting with warmer light. Several artists have submitted designs for painting the tunnel. The residents of the neighbourhood had a voice in choosing the design for the walls and Joep van Gassel's idea won. The artist was given a 275 m2 canvas to paint on. He depicted 10 animals that live in this area. And he really saw several of them in and around the tunnel while he was painting, so he told me.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Joep van Gassel is an urban artist from Tilburg who creates art in public space. Besides designing floor and wall paintings and objects, he makes graphic designs, illustrations and gives workshops.</div><div>Joep has regular community art projects, in which he organizes and teaches with passion for his profession. He feels like both a designer and a painter, qualities that come together in his work as an urban artist. His work is characterized by clear, powerful shapes, adapted to the environment in which they find themselves.</div>

<div>The residents of the house wanted a painting with lots of flowers to brighten up the dull square at the back of their home.</div>

<div>During drawing lessons, VMBO TL students from year 2 of the Beatrix College. became acquainted with the phenomenon of "street art". Under the guidance of well-known Tilburg Urban Artist Joep van Gassel, the students made real graffiti, using paint and spray cans.<br>After the workshop, a selection of talented students (Roos, Jesse, Sophie, Fleur and Mila) participated in a follow-up workshop, where they were allowed to make a real painting on a brick wall. This was made possible by Anja Reinhardt, culture coach VO in the Reeshof.</div>

<div>In this community art project the neighborhood wanted to see nature, something that would be in line with the environment. The oak tree, with the jay in it, refers to the history of Waalwijk. Because of the availability of lots of water and oak trees in Waalwijk the leather tanning industry was able to flourish here. This again gave rise to the shoe industry. The jay is the bird most responsible for the distribution of acorns and thus also for the distribution of oak trees.</div>

<div>Wonderful interactive art project by Joep van Gassel in close collaboration with the residents and primary school pupils of the Korvel district.<br>The artist painted electricity boxes and waste bins on thirteen spots in the area. The painted objects are not only a beautification for the neighbourhood, they are also a scavenger hunt with challenging assignments for children of all ages. All the objects are numbered. The route begins at the Coba Pulskenslaan and is heading in the direction of the Rooseveltplein. The project arose from the need to mean something for the neighbourhood during the pandamic. Collaboration has been expressly sought with residents and young people from the area. Such an art project provides extra added value for the hood if you do it not only fór residents, but also wíth residents.</div>

<div>The owners of the house asked Joep van Gassel to paint sunflowers on a wall of their home.</div>

<div>The pattern of this mural is build out of plants and their flowers which were used to make pigments to dye fabrics. It's a reference to the textile history of Tilburg and the neighbourhood where the mural is located. It is made for 'schonste wijk' project.</div>

<div>Floor painting hopscotch alphabet made on the sidewalk in the Obrechtstraat in Tilburg Noord.&nbsp; Commissioned by the municipality of Tilburg.&nbsp; Most hopscotch is numbers, but the artist wanted to do something different this time.&nbsp; Making a hopscotch consisting of letters that together form an alphabet.&nbsp; 26 letters, 26 different fonts.<br>In the same street, at the corner of nr. 51, Joep vam Gassel painted another jumping game.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Two murals under the bridge of the Ringbaan Oost at the Piushaven: the pink submarine (July 31, 2013) and a wall with the skyline of the city (October 14, 2013).<br>The painting with the pink submarine was made at the request of Tiwos housing foundation and Triborgh Area Development. The road under the viaduct is an important traffic route to and from the city. Boats heading for the Piushaven pass and the path alongside is used by many cyclists coming from the New Jerusalem neighborhood and heading for the city center. Despite the fact that the artwork had to reflect the renovation of the neighborhood New Jerusalem and fit with the new house style of the neighborhood Van Gassel was able to use his fantasy. Like the eye-catcher, for example: the submarine. "It was more obvious to make it a ship, but that is so cliché," he said. "And the reflection here at night makes the boat look like it's in the harbor."<br>The paintings with the skyline of the city was made in collaboration with the Junior Kamer Hart van Brabant, who contributed to the mural as part of their annual weekend out. The text on the blue/yellow one is a poem written by Esther Porceijn especially for the mural. The painting contains a lot of Tilburg elements such as the harbour (Piushaven), dragon boat festival, fun-fair, textile industry, transport and Willem II.</div>

<div>Mural for elementary school Koningshaven (former Fatimaschool) in Tilburg. During a workshop in 2018, pupils of the school were able to help create this 6.5 meter high mural. The starting point for the design of the mural was being together and working together at school and the multicultural character of the school. The diverse colorful birds symbolize the diversity of the school.</div>
