A street artist since 2017, Mr-Byste has been spreading his works throughout many neighbourhoods of Paris and its surrounding suburbs. Bridging art and science, he initially trained as an environmental engineer. His work draws inspiration from animal illustration, anatomical drawing, natural history and quantum physics.
His animal creations are inspired by the Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger and his famous thought experiment involving a cat. Like Schrödinger’s cat, Mr-Byste’s creations exist in a state of superposition, suspended between two possibilities: life and death.
The artist believes that, given humanity’s impact on the environment, the world has become a vast-scale experiment, a giant box in which the ultimate fate of all living beings depends on human choices. We now speak of the Anthropocene, a proposed geological epoch characterised by humanity’s emergence as the dominant driver of change on Earth, surpassing natural geophysical forces. It is the age of humankind, marked by unprecedented planetary upheaval.
Since 2022, he has also been exploring the work of Eadweard Muybridge and Étienne-Jules Marey, pioneers of chronophotography and the study of movement and locomotion in living beings. Using stencilling and stop-motion techniques, he creates series of 12 to 24 artworks that bring the skeletons of animals and humans to life, including rats, cats, horses, rabbits and human figures.
