Drifting

Pref is wat ze een ‘wordsmith’ noemen. Zij het allicht niet in de klassieke betekenis van het, welja, woord. De Britse street artist is verzot op taal, typologie en 3D-design, en hij brengt die drie voorliefdes al eens samen om een volledige zin in een enkel woord te verstoppen. Weinig kunstenaars doen het hem na – Pref doet je op een andere manier naar woorden kijken – waardoor hij intussen een indrukwekkend internationaal parcours heeft afgelegd. In Oostende ging hij vrij toepasselijk aan de slag met het woord ‘drifting’.

Pref is what you’d call a wordsmith. Even if it’s not in the most traditional sense of the, well, word. This British street artist is in love with language, typography and 3D design, and he manages to combine these three loves in his artwork, hiding entire sentences in a single word. Not many artists can match Pref’s ability to give you a fresh perspective on words, and this has allowed him to build up an impressive international body of work. In Ostend he set to work, rather appropriately, with the word ‘drifting’.
