In the artwork, we find a bottle with fire inside, floating at the mouth of the Tagus River, in the Bugio area. Around it, we see several people interacting with the surroundings in different ways, in an image intended to spark in young people the desire to play with passion, to compete, and to challenge themselves toward victory.
The bottle takes us back to other times, when messages were conveyed in different ways. It comes from the past, from Portugal’s rich history—here represented by the bottle’s label, which features the Cross of Christ that once appeared on the sails of our caravels, and bears one of the opening stanzas of Os Lusíadas. It is therefore a bottle that contains a message from the past, full of potential and hopes for the future.
This project was born from the participatory budget of the municipio de Oeiras, promoted by Mr. Paulo Nóvoa, who dreamed and dared to imagine this space transformed to host an artistic and sporting intervention promoted by Hoopersclub_pt, developed in partnership with the Municipio de Oeiras. The new space is located in Parque da Quinta do Esmeraldo and features six basketball hoops and two football goals, creating room for many duels and gatherings.
