Paul Smith was born in 1946 in Beeston. In 1970 Smith opened his own shop called Paul Smith Vêtements Pour Homme on Byard Lane in Nottingham, which sold established clothing labels, alongside pieces that Smith had designed. His fashion company has now expanded to over 70 countries.
