Marked by Life

"Marked by life" Casa de Compos 9 c, Soho, Malaga by Santiago Ydáñez from Puenta de Génave were created in June 2017 as part of the MAUS Malaga

The face of the ancient sculpture has no eyes, only black caves, for Santiago it is a kind of disguise behind which he can hide like a doll.

"What I like most about painting is the pictorial fact itself, the painting. During painting, you have very intense sensations about things. Not just about what you think, you think about over a thousand things at once, even if you focus on the image itself. It's a very reflective fact and quite intense the joy it gives you," Santiago Ydáñez said of his artistic concerns.

"For me, painting means communicating with oneself in a very visceral way; It's in the process where my energy explodes and is reflected in the work. The greatest emotion."

The artist is very clear about the feeling he wants to convey, for this reason he uses his own body on numerous occasions and makes his face to achieve this pictorial fact.

On other occasions, it starts directly with photographs, hence the black and white tones.

Ydáñez has several emotional registers that are very defined, on the one hand, characterized by the lyrical, mystical, cheerful and sensual, and on the other hand brutal, shrill and violent.
