Fantasy

 Op de Bavoschool hebben de kinderen uit twee van zijn tekeningen mogen kiezen. Dat werd overduidelijk de ijsbeer. Het meisje op de muurschildering (mural) is de dochter van de kunstenaar. Zij staat wel meer op zijn schilderingen en is voor hem een grote inspiratiebron. Zij is de nieuwe generatie. Veel directer dan de oude; zij gaat recht op haar doel af. Om een ontwerp voor de muurschildering te krijgen ging Sidney vooraf op het schoolplein kijken. Zijn dochter was mee en het regende. Het schoolplein stond toen onder water en zijn dochter ging daar zorgeloos aan de waterrand spelen. Het idee voor de mural was geboren. De muurschildering trekt vooral de aandacht met de ijsbeer en het meisje. Je ziet hoe de ijsbeer aandachtig naar het meisje kijkt. Zij zit in haar eigen fantasiewereld. Verder wordt op de achtergrond de strijd tussen de economische “vooruitgang” en de bedreigde natuur tot uiting gebracht in rokende fabriekspijpen. De muurschildering werd in 2020 aangebracht in een aparte kleurencombinatie. Hiermee wekt zij de indruk dat de mural er al veel langer zit.

At the Bavoschool, the children were allowed to choose from two of his drawings. That became obvious
polar bear. The girl in the mural is the artist's daughter. She fgures some more of his paintings and is a great source of inspiration for him. She is the new generation. Much more direct than the old one; she goes straight for her target.
To create a design for the mural Sidney visited the schoolyard in advance together with his daughter. It was raining that day and the yard looked flooded, but his daughter still played at the edge of the water. The idea for the mural was born. The mural drawsattention with the polar bear and the girl. You see how the polar bear attentively looks at the girl while she's in her own fantasy world.
In the background, the battle between the economic “progress” and endangered nature
expressed in smoking factory pipes. The mural was applied in 2020 in a separate color combination. This gives the impression that the mural has been there for much longer.
