<div><br>&nbsp;Op de Bavoschool hebben de kinderen uit twee van zijn tekeningen mogen kiezen. Dat werd overduidelijk de ijsbeer. Het meisje op de muurschildering (mural) is de dochter van de kunstenaar. Zij staat wel meer op zijn schilderingen en is voor hem een grote inspiratiebron. Zij is de nieuwe generatie. Veel directer dan de oude; zij gaat recht op haar doel af. Om een ontwerp voor de muurschildering te krijgen ging Sidney vooraf op het schoolplein kijken. Zijn dochter was mee en het regende. Het schoolplein stond toen onder water en zijn dochter ging daar zorgeloos aan de waterrand spelen. Het idee voor de mural was geboren. De muurschildering trekt vooral de aandacht met de ijsbeer en het meisje. Je ziet hoe de ijsbeer aandachtig naar het meisje kijkt. Zij zit in haar eigen fantasiewereld. Verder wordt op de achtergrond de strijd tussen de economische “vooruitgang” en de bedreigde natuur tot uiting gebracht in rokende fabriekspijpen. De muurschildering werd in 2020 aangebracht in een aparte kleurencombinatie. Hiermee wekt zij de indruk dat de mural er al veel langer zit.&nbsp;<br>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br>At the Bavoschool, the children were allowed to choose from two of his drawings. That became obvious<br>polar bear. The girl in the mural is the artist's daughter. She fgures some more of his paintings and is a great source of inspiration for him. She is the new generation. Much more direct than the old one; she goes straight for her target.<br>To create a design for the mural Sidney visited the schoolyard in advance together with his daughter. It was raining that day and the yard looked flooded, but his daughter still played at the edge of the water.&nbsp;The idea for the mural was born. The mural drawsattention with the polar bear and the girl. You see how the polar bear attentively looks at the girl while she's in her own fantasy world.<br>In the background, the battle between the economic “progress” and endangered nature<br>expressed in smoking factory pipes. The mural was applied in 2020 in a separate color combination. This gives the impression that the mural has been there for much longer.<br><br></div>

Telmo Miel

<div>Dutch art duo Telmo Miel recently spent a couple of days in Haarlem working on a pretty much 1st large mural in this historic city just outside Amsterdam. Invited by the local initiative that is hoping to bring more color and public pieces into the streets, the artists completed this vibrant mixture of classic and modern aesthetic titled Portrait of a Girl in Blue and Pink, or Mona Gaga, as titled by the locals.<br><br>While researching for this project Telmo Miel visited the local Frans Hals Museum where they found out about this important work by Haarlem-born artist Johannes Verspronck. Originally titled Girl in Blue Dress this classic portrait from the middle of the 17th century shows a young girl wearing an extravagant adult dress. Since the original piece is nowadays in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the artists wanted to bring it back to its hometown, but also add some contemporary elements to it. Along with meticulously reproducing the delicate dress painted by the Dutch master, they added an outspoken look of the modern times in the shape of an oversized pink bow and exaggerated sunglasses. The mixture of two time periods and two styles was done in a rough manner, evoking the basic Photoshop intervention, adding further to the extravagance of the finished image.<br>“To give the artwork a daily and modern twist, we chose to incorporate Lady Gaga. This makes it contemporary, but also classic due to the extravagant dress from older times.” shares the artists</div>

Girl in Blue and Pink

<div>&nbsp;<strong>Global Industrial Sewing Machines, sinds 1983 gevestigd in de Waarderpolder, verkoopt wereldwijd naaimachines. Sinds kort prijkt aan de muren van de fabriek twee bijzondere muurschilderingen: die van Sidney Waerts zit aan de binnenzijde van de fabriek, die van Said Kino aan de Spaarnezijde.<br></strong><br></div><div>Het is het zesde buitenproject van Sidney in Haarlem, zijn werk hier leverde hem een uitnodiging op om te komen praten. Het verhaal is opgedeeld in fragmenten: van vroeger, via het heden, naar de toekomst. Sidney: “Door het grote aantal vierkante meters heb ik collega-kunstenaar Said Kinos gevraagd mij te helpen. Mijn werk is meer verhalend, dat van Said vrij complex. Het naast elkaar staan van twee stijlen vonden Frans en Maarten interessant.</div><div><br></div><div>We zien een oud naaiatelier, waar de dames aan het werk zijn achter hun oude naaimachines. Via de jurk van het klassieke meisje gaan we door naar garen, dat weer verbonden wordt met het beeld van een Global naaimachine. Het heden laat een naaiatelier uit India zien dat gekoppeld zit aan een beeld van een sportschoen. Voor de sportschoen worden mallen gemaakt die weer op de achtergrond te zien zijn. Een rol garen als een soort ruimtecapsule neemt de kijker mee naar het Global logo, dat oplicht uit een achtergrond van planeten. Een robotarm hangt in beeld om de laatste link te leggen met de toekomst. Dan zullen mensenhanden misschien niet meer nodig zijn.&nbsp;<br>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br>Global Industrial Sewing Machines, located in the Waarderpolder since 1983, sells sewing machines worldwide. Two special murals have recently adorned the walls of the factory: that of Sidney Waerts is on the inside of the factory, that of Said Kino on the Spaarne side.<br><br>It is Sidney's sixth outdoor project in Haarlem, and his work here earned him an invitation to come and talk. The story is divided into fragments: from the past, through the present, to the future. Sidney: “Due to the large number of square meters, I asked fellow artist Said Kinos to help me. My work is more narrative, Said's quite complex. Frans and Maarten found the juxtaposition of two styles interesting.<br><br>We see an old sewing workshop, where the ladies are working behind their old sewing machines. Through the classic girl's dress, we move on to yarn, which in turn is connected to the image of a Global sewing machine. The present shows a sewing workshop from India linked to an image of a sports shoe. Molds are made for the sports shoe, which can be seen in the background. A roll of yarn like a space capsule takes the viewer to the Global logo, which lights up from a background of planets. A robot arm hangs in the picture to make the last link with the future. Then human hands may no longer be needed.</div>

Global Sewing

<div>&nbsp;Op een blinde muur langs de Kromme Elleboogsteeg in het centrum van de stad schommelt zijn eigen dochtertje Meesie van 4,5 jaar door de sterrenhemel. Het jongste werk sluit daarbij aan op de twee grote muurschilderingen aan de Johan van Vlietstraat die hij eerder dit voorjaar maakte, waarop kinderen hun eigen (sterren)wereld creëren.</div><div>,,Ik speel met de vraag wat we onze kinderen eigenlijk bijbrengen over een gezonde balans die we nodig hebben in deze wereld’’, vertelt hij ,,Zeker nu in deze rare tijden is dat belangrijk. De hele wereld in uit balans en we schrikken wakker.’’&nbsp;<br>----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br>On a blindwall along the Kromme Elleboogsteeg in the center of the city, his own 4.5-year-old daughter Meesie swings through the starry sky. The latest work is in line with the two large murals on the Johan van Vlietstraat that he made earlier this spring, in which children create their own (starry) world.<br>“I play with the question of what we actually teach our children about a healthy balance that we need in this world,” he says. “Especially now in these strange times, that is important. The whole world is out of balance and we wake up with a fright.”</div>
