Ignacio Basave from Madrid wins the Estepona (Málaga) International Mural Competition for 'The bond that unites us'

The Estepona City Council (Málaga) has reported that the jury of the III International Mural Competition has awarded the first prize, worth 10,000 euros, to Ignacio Basave Cavanna from Madrid for his work 'The bond that unites us', which shows a scene shared by a grandmother and her granddaughter and which he has painted on the back of the Acuarius building on José Luis Díez street.

Introduction by Ignacio Basave:

From a very young age, I began to explore my artistic concerns through drawing and graffiti. Since then, I have not stopped training: I studied the Degree in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where I obtained honors in my Final Degree Project; and I expanded my knowledge in the Diploma of Illustration, Advertising and Design at the ESDIP art school.

The works I present are the result of years of dedication, understanding and determination. They all share a common artistic technique: spray. Sometimes, I also use acrylic to provide a richer and more dynamic texture to the pieces.

My goal is to create harmony between the original environment and the work, establishing a dialogue with the public through a piece that is both striking and beautiful, and that leaves no one indifferent.

ARTISTIC MEMORY:

I have designed this proposal taking into account the specific context of Estepona, as well as the general reality of the current population. Since Estepona is a coastal city with rapid population growth, I wanted to represent two female figures that establish a significant emotional bond: a grandmother and her granddaughter. This portrait symbolizes the connection between past and future generations.

In the work, the granddaughter emerges from her grandmother's dress, thus uniting them into a single character that symbolises the continuity and essence of Estepona, reflecting both the past and the future of the town. The grandmother appears to be holding a fish suspended in the air, while the girl expresses her desire to interact with it. This element illustrates the beauty of marine fauna and the importance of our relationship with it: the girl represents enthusiasm and curiosity, while the grandmother embodies the responsibility and respect necessary for sustainable activity.

Commitment to the environment, our coasts and oceans is fundamental for our species and for the well-being of the planet. This message of care and responsibility must be passed down from generation to generation, as reflected in the relationship between the grandmother and the granddaughter.

I chose to depict a grandmother with her granddaughter because I believe it is crucial to convey two subliminal messages: the importance of a strong family unit and respect for the elderly. This bond not only highlights the intergenerational connection, but also underlines the value of maintaining healthy family relationships and appreciation for the wisdom of previous generations.

El madrileño Ignacio Basave gana el Concurso Internacional de Murales de Estepona (Málaga) por 'El vínculo que nos une'

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona (Málaga) ha informado de que el jurado del III Concurso Internacional de Murales ha otorgado el primer premio, dotado con 10.000 euros, al madrileño Ignacio Basave Cavanna por su obra 'El vínculo que nos une', que muestra una escena compartida por una abuela y su nieta y que ha pintado en la parte trasera del edificio Acuarius de calle José Luis Díez.

Introducción por Ignacio Basave:

Desde muy joven, comencé a explorar mis inquietudes artísticas a través del dibujo y el graffiti. Desde entonces, no he dejado de formarme: cursé el Grado en Bellas Artes en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, donde obtuve matrícula de honor en mi Trabajo de Fin de Grado; y amplié mis conocimientos en la Diplomatura de Ilustración, Publicidad y Diseño en la escuela de arte ESDIP.

Las obras que presento son el resultado de años de dedicación, comprensión y determinación. Todas comparten una técnica artística común: el spray. En ocasiones, también utilizo acrílico para aportar una textura más rica y dinámica a las piezas.

Mi objetivo es crear una armonía entre el entorno original y la obra, estableciendo un diálogo con el público a través de una pieza que sea tanto impactante como hermosa, y que no deje a nadie indiferente.

MEMORIA ARTÍSTICA:

He diseñado esta propuesta teniendo en cuenta el contexto específico de Estepona, así como también la realidad general de la población actual. Dado que Estepona es una ciudad costera con un rápido crecimiento demográfico, quise representar dos figuras femeninas que establezcan un vínculo emocional significativo: una abuela y su nieta. Este retrato simboliza la conexión entre las generaciones pasadas y las futuras.

En la obra, la nieta emerge del vestido de su abuela, estando unidas siendo así un único personaje que simboliza la continuidad y la esencia de Estepona, reflejando tanto el pasado como el futuro de la ciudad. La abuela parece sostener un pez suspendido en el aire, mientras la niña expresa su deseo de interactuar con él. Este elemento ilustra la belleza de la fauna marina y la importancia de nuestra relación con ella: la niña representa el entusiasmo y la curiosidad, mientras que la abuela encarna la responsabilidad y el respeto necesarios para una actividad sostenible.

El compromiso con el medio ambiente, nuestras costas y océanos es fundamental para nuestra especie y para el bienestar del planeta. Este mensaje de cuidado y responsabilidad debe ser transmitido de generación en generación, como se refleja en la relación entre la abuela y la nieta.

Elegí representar a una abuela con su nieta porque creo que es crucial transmitir dos mensajes subliminales: la importancia de una unidad familiar sólida y el respeto hacia las personas mayores. Este vínculo no solo destaca la conexión intergeneracional, sino que también subraya el valor de mantener relaciones familiares saludables y el aprecio por la sabiduría de las generaciones anteriores.
