Haags Icoon: Chuck Deely

The Hague started 2017 with the sad news that street musician Chuck Deely had passed away. The Hague Locals were fond of his ever musical presence in one of his favorite spots in the city centre. A mural close to one of these s spots would be a perfect way to pay tribute to this iconic musician. 

 

Three THSA artists were invited to make a design capturing Chuck.  Together with the Municipality's 'Meldpunt Graffiti' an online voting was set up where The Hague residents could vote. The illustrative and colorful design by Sophia den Breems was voted favorite; winning more than 2000 of the 3500 votes.  

 

The artist could only work between 1:30 and 5:30 at night when the trams weren’t in use because they had to turn of the dangerous power on the overhead line. 

 

She wanted to show Chuck "as beautiful and colorful as possible", just like his music. We will miss Chuck but we are happy with this fantastic mural by Sophia which will keep him with us for a long time.
