International Museum Day has been celebrated around the world since 1977. The long night of museums was born, under that name, in the city of Berlin that same year.  Since then, many other European cities have joined this initiative promoted by the Council of Europe by joining the commemorative events of ICOM (International Council of Museums. www.icom-ce.org) within International Museum Day.  Preferably, it is celebrated around May 18 based on the traditions and conditions of each country and under the same spirit that motivates it.
