524. MapecooI'm María Peña a visual artist from Asturias, Spain with a Fine Arts degree from Madrid. My artistic path took a nomadic turn early on, thanks to scholarships that led me to London and São Paulo—two cities that deeply shaped how I see and make art.
Over the past decade, I’ve worked and spent long periods in places like New York, Port-au-Prince, Bandung, Beijing, Vienna, Sicily and Paris. These experiences taught me to listen to my surroundings and to understand art as a living, shared process. While I began with painting on canvas, my practice now includes unstructured formats, 3D surfaces and street art, from small paste ups to big murals.
Since 2018, I’ve created large-scale public artworks for example for the University of Puerto Rico, the European Union in Ethiopia, and international festivals in Paris, Sicily, and Mérida (Mexico). I’ve been based in Paris since 2019, where I balance studio work with site-specific projects.
Public space inspires me, its textures, the people. I believe in the social power of art to transform environments and spark dialogue. That’s why I often collaborate with local associations, institutions, and communities, weaving collective stories.

535. Miquel WertMiquel Wert (Barcelona, Spain, 1982) is a Spanish-Swedish painter and muralist based in Barcelona. Raised in a family that appreciated art and craftsmanship, Miquel developed an early fascination with drawing. His father’s technical drawings, along with comics, illustration, and painting, inspired him to draw compulsively—an obsession that ultimately led him to pursue Fine Arts.
He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona in 2005 and currently combines his artistic practice with teaching as an associate professor in the Department of Arts and Conservation-Restoration at the same institution.
Miquel’s artistic journey began on the streets of Barcelona in 1993 when he painted his first tag with a school friend. By 1996, he was fully immersed in graffiti culture, creating large-scale works on both legal and illegal surfaces, often focused on the human figure. In 2002, personal and legal challenges led him to step away from graffiti. After six years of intense studio work, he reimagined his approach to public space, returning to urban interventions with a more introspective and personal outlook. Moving beyond the conventions of graffiti, he began exploring pictorial themes, often drawing inspiration from his family roots, and experimenting with mixed media—using brushes, rollers, and unconventional tools—well before the rise of new muralism and the influence of social media.
Since 2000, Miquel’s paintings and murals have been featured in nearly one hundred solo and group exhibitions internationally, including galleries, cultural institutions, and art fairs. He is represented by Galerie Art du Temps (Cléon-d’Andran, France), Luxart Galerie (Arlon, Belgium), Galeria Anquin’s (Reus, Spain), and Galerie Friedmann-Hahn (Berlin, Germany).
His work has earned significant recognition, including First Prize at the LIV International Drawing Prize Ynglada-Guillot (2016) and an Honorable Mention at the Stipendutstilling exhibition at Galleri Ramfjord (Oslo, Norway). He has also received fellowships and residencies from institutions such as the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, Torrearte, and JISER: Reflexions Mediterrànies.
Miquel’s artworks are held in public and private collections in over a dozen countries, including the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, the Heritage Fund of the University of Barcelona, JISER (Spain/Tunisia), Cervezas Ambar, Vermut Miró, and various municipal collections in Spain and Portugal. His murals can be found in public spaces throughout France, Austria, Portugal, Tunisia, and Spain.
Miquel’s figurative art, rich in narrative and emotional depth, delves into themes of memory, identity, and the intersection of collective and personal histories.
