Larsen Bervoets

<div>When Larsen Bervoets was invited by the city to make a nice mural, he thought it was to obvious to design something about shipping, prostituees (Redlight District is just around the corner) or sailors. He was looking for a strong image.&nbsp;<br>One day during a course at the MAS (Museum of Shopping nearby) he heard a story about Brabo and the Giant Druon Antigone. He inspired his work on the story of a gigantic whale bone which was found in the Middle Ages, in that time nobody knew of the existence of whales. Hence the origin story of the name Antwerp and the Giant Druon.&nbsp;<br>The artist worked 10 days on this piece in cold circumstances, but it's still one of the most powerful walls in town.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>(february 2013)</div>

<div>To raise awareness on HIV, Larsen Bevoets was asked to paint these twin murals in the city centre.<br>He depicted a clownesk character who's removing his make up to reveal his true self, symbolising that it's still hard for people to talk about their disease.<br>In stead of a dull campaign, <a href="https://www.sensoa.be/">Sensoa</a> tried the power of street art.<br><br>may 2018</div>

<div>In a small street near&nbsp; the Meir, the famous shopping street in Antwerp, the young artist Larsen Bervoets produced 2 beautiful murals on the sidewalls of a school.&nbsp;<br>In the "Eikenstraat" (translated as Oakstreet) 2 children are playing with their selfmade wings. On one side a girl is playing with her wings, while on the other side a boy is sitting on the branch of an oak tree (cfr roofgutter of the school building) dreaming of spreading his wings. But he's so far in his dreams he doesn't notice the two man at the bottom chopping up the tree. Both children are wearing bird's masks.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>These 2 walls were part of big make over of the "Meir" in the summer of 2013. To end a long during battle against ugly tags the neighbourhood brought in some beautiful streetartistry.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</div>

Dreamin'

<div>This mural is situated near the faculty of design sciences and was realized with the support of&nbsp; Art on Campus, the owners of the building and colleagues from the Infrastructure Department of the University of Antwerp.<br><br>"More than a year ago, on July 14, 2020, the unthinkable happened and a colleague lost his daughter. That affected us all deeply. To commemrate this Antwerp artist Larsen Bervoets worked on a mural during the late summer at university's request. The abstract artwork visualizes a drape of memories elaborated in strong colors and textures. It pays tribute to the loss and with this artwork the faculty wants to embrace the family with an explosion of color and warmth. The work also wants to support all colleagues and students who lost a loved one during the past difficult period. "<br>&nbsp;<br>"The statue consists of a piece of cloth from a dress, a pink skirt of hers, a piece of a dress up gown. The red sphere with black dots floating in front of it refers to her "sign" at kindergarten school (a ladybug). The spheres and the colors give a playful character. I made the background a deep blue to make the shapes stand out well.": shares Larsen with us.<br><br>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br>Deze mural is gesitueerd nabij de Faculteit Ontwerpwetenschappen en kwam tot stand met Kunst op de Campus, de eigenaars van het pand en de collega’s van de dienst Infrastructuur van de Universiteit Antwerpen.<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;“Meer dan een jaar geleden, op 14 juli 2020, gebeurde het ondenkbare en verloor een collega zijn dochter. Dat heeft ons allemaal diep geraakt. Om dit te herdenken maakte Antwerpse artiest Larsen Bervoets een kunstwerk dateen gordijn van herinneringen visualiseert, uitgewerkt in sterke kleuren en texturen. Het brengt hulde aan het verlies en met dit kunstwerk wil de faculteit het gezin omarmen met een explosie van kleur en warmte. Het werk wil ook alle collega's en studenten steunen die een dierbare verloren hebben in de afgelopen moeilijke periode."&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>"Het beeld bestaat uit een stuk stof van een jurk, een roze rok van haar, een stuk van een verkleedjurk. De rode bol met zwarte stippen die ervoor zweeft verwijst naar haar "teken" op de kleuterschool (een lieveheersbeestje ). De bollen en de kleuren geven een speels karakter. Ik heb de achtergrond diepblauw gemaakt om de vormen goed te laten uitkomen.": deelt Larsen met ons.</div>

<div>For a neighbourhoud make over project Larsen Bervoets was chosen by locals to paint a mural on the side of a dull parking lot.<br>This mural was inspired by the financial crisis at that time, the kid has no money to buy a bone for his dog, so he draws one on the pavement.<br>Sweet but a little crule at the same time.<br><br>(July 2013)</div>

<div>The social housing company 'De Ideale Woning' started a project to improve the quality of life in this small neighboorhoud called "de Wieken" (translated as windmillwings).<br>For this project they wanted to do a graffiti project on one of the sidewalls of the garageboxes, they asked Street Art Antwerp for help.<br>He asked Antwerp artist for a design using the fact that this area used to be a tree orchard with a windmill standing in the middle. <br>Larsen painted a abstract impression of a windmill and during the inauguration kids could try their graffiti skills thanx to a workshop organised by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/spray.play.be/?fb_dtsg_ag=AdzD6meAg2vx-_AL2QfqlEkZYMhVFiv4N_qBB8a_2rwp3g:Ady_2w0VkFfKZcFj_16hu2QNm1_GQHUuRfIhirkWRUxgzA">Spray &amp; Play</a><br>Next to that there was drawing competition and of the winning designs the organisation produced 7 stickers and they were used to pimp several garbage bins in this hood.</div>

New Look

<div><strong>EN</strong><br>This abstract interpretation of what is going on in Wijgmaal offered a very interesting experience for young people who wanted to take their first steps in the street art world.
<br>
<br>The grandstand was painted for and by the local youth. 20 children between the ages of 12 and 18 set to work under the guidance of art collective Treepack to embellish the grandstand on Rietensplein.<br><br>--<br><br><strong>NL</strong><br>Deze abstracte interpretatie van wat er speelt en leeft in Wijgmaal bood een erg interessante ervaring voor jongeren die hun eerste stappen wilden zetten in de streetart wereld.<br><br>De tribune werd beschilderd voor en door de lokale jongeren. 20 kinderen tussen 12 en 18 jaar gingen aan de slag onder leiding van kunstcollectief Treepack om de tribune op het Rietensplein te verfraaien.</div>

<div>Lokale artiesten brachten kunstwerken aan op de pijlers en de wanden van de Ronde van Vlaanderenbrug. Onder leiding van kunstenaarscollectief Treepack werd dit viaduct getransformeerd tot een kleurrijke en activerende omgeving.</div>

Positive Vibrations Vol. 1

<div>&nbsp;<br>Dit werk is van kunstenaar <strong>Larsen Bervoets</strong>. Met <em>2D OR NOT 2D</em> wil hij een abstract trompe l'oeil-effect creëren op de zijgevel van het Dorpshuis in Morkhoven. <br> <br> <strong>Treepack </strong>en <strong>stad Herentals</strong> slaan de handen in elkaar om op 5 plaatsen in Herentals en deelgemeenten (Noorderwijk en Morkhoven) streetartprojecten te lanceren. Door streetart een prominente plaats te geven, wil de stad kunst dichter bij de inwoners brengen.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>Een werkgroep van inwoners, stadsmedewerkers, schepenen en experten zetten zich in voor dit project en kozen de inhoudelijke thema’s voor de verschillende kunstwerken. Alle thema’s hebben te maken met de eigenheid van Herentals en de Herentalsenaren.
