Op 14 september is in de Delftse Buitenhof de muurschildering Cherished onthuld, gemaakt door street artist BEYOND (Roelof Schierbeek). Het kunstwerk op de Haydnlaan, geïnspireerd door verhalen van buurtbewoners en Delfts aardewerk uit de collectie van Museum Prinsenhof Delft, staat in het teken van “koesteren”. Dit project is een samenwerking tussen het museum, stichting CANIDREAM en het landelijke Museum Murals-initiatief, dat twintig muurschilderingen door heel Nederland realiseert om kunst dichter bij de gemeenschap te brengen.

Bij de onthulling spraken diverse betrokkenen, waaronder burgemeester Marja van Bijsterveldt, die de verbindende kracht van het project prees. In het ontwerp zijn handen van buurtbewoners verwerkt, die symbolisch de flat omarmen, een verwijzing naar de warmte en samenhang die de buurt kenmerkt.

Om de buurt actief te betrekken, begeleidden BEYOND en zijn partner Laxmi Manuela workshops waarin bewoners hielpen de omgeving van de muurschildering te verfraaien. De onthulling werd gevierd met een toast en een gezamenlijke maaltijd in het park.

Cherished is het derde project van CANIDREAM’s NOBIS Community Art in de wijk Buitenhof en draagt bij aan de visuele identiteit van de wijk. Dit initiatief werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door onder andere Woningcorporatie Woonbron, de Gemeente Delft, Fonds1818, TU Delft en HDB Voorgoed. Museum Murals, geïnitieerd door het Mauritshuis en ondersteund door de VriendenLoterij, heeft als doel kunst toegankelijk te maken op onverwachte plekken in het alledaagse leven.

On September 14, the mural Cherished was unveiled in the Delft Buitenhof, created by street artist BEYOND (Roelof Schierbeek). The artwork on the Haydnlaan, inspired by stories from local residents and Delft pottery from the collection of Museum Prinsenhof Delft, is all about “cherishing”. This project is a collaboration between the museum, the CANIDREAM foundation and the national Museum Murals initiative, which is creating twenty murals throughout the Netherlands to bring art closer to the community.

Various stakeholders spoke at the unveiling, including mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt, who praised the connecting power of the project. The design incorporates the hands of local residents, symbolically embracing the flat, a reference to the warmth and cohesion that characterizes the neighborhood.

In order to actively involve the neighborhood, BEYOND and its partner Laxmi Manuela led workshops in which residents helped to beautify the area around the mural. The unveiling was celebrated with a toast and a communal meal in the park.

Cherished is the third project of CANIDREAM’s NOBIS Community Art in the Buitenhof district and contributes to the visual identity of the district. This initiative was made possible by, among others, Housing Corporation Woonbron, the Municipality of Delft, Fonds1818, TU Delft and HDB Voorgoed. Museum Murals, initiated by the Mauritshuis and supported by the VriendenLoterij, aims to make art accessible in unexpected places in everyday life.
