Cirque du Soleil streek in het najaar van 2025 neer in Brussel met Alegría In A New Light, een vernieuwde versie van hun iconische show uit 1994. In het kader van hun maatschappelijke betrokkenheid werkte het gezelschap samen met de gemeente Sint-Gillis aan een permanente muurschildering die de magie van het circus naar de stad brengt. Het resultaat, getiteld “MOTION”, werd gecreëerd door de Belgische kunstenaar Sam Billen, creatief directeur van Treepack, en vormt een kleurrijk eerbetoon aan beweging, kracht en verbeelding.

Het werk weerspiegelt de gracieuze en gecontroleerde beweging van de artiesten van Alegría – In A New Light en vertaalt de barokke beeldtaal van de voorstelling naar een stedelijke context. Volgens Billen vangt MOTION “de magische schoonheid van geoefende beweging en de kracht van het menselijk lichaam om de grenzen van realiteit te verleggen.” De mural vormt zo een visuele verlenging van de verwondering die het publiek wereldwijd ervaart bij Cirque du Soleil.

Cirque du Soleil arrived in Brussels in the fall of 2025 with Alegría In A New Light, a revamped version of their iconic 1994 show. As part of their social engagement, the company collaborated with the municipality of Saint-Gilles to create a permanent mural that brings the magic of the circus to the city. The result, titled “MOTION,” was created by Belgian artist Sam Billen, creative director of Treepack, and is a colorful tribute to movement, power, and imagination.

The work reflects the graceful and controlled movement of the artists of Alegría – In A New Light and translates the performance's baroque visual language to an urban context. According to Billen, MOTION “captures the magical beauty of practiced movement and the power of the human body to push the boundaries of reality.” The mural thus becomes a visual extension of the wonder that audiences worldwide experience with Cirque du Soleil.
