Duo de Street-artistes et d’amis, Paul et Rémi, passionnés de photographie, sensibles et complémentaires, pratiquent l’art urbain depuis 2007. Ils se sont peu à peu éloignés de certains codes du graffiti, tout en en conservant quelques traits. Leur travail n’a cessé d’évoluer et mêle aujourd’hui abstraction, figuration et typographie. La recherche d’authenticité, d’amour, de proximité et d’échange est un point essentiel dans leur processus de création. Ils attachent une grande importance à représenter et peindre les gens ordinaires : « L’ordinaire est à nos yeux extraordinaire! ».

La fresque a été réalisé en lien permanent avec les habitants du quartier, notamment avec le soutien et l’accompagnement du Centre Social et Culturel de l’Aspé. Construit dans les années 1975 et réhabilité en 2004, ce quartier compte 198 logements pour environ 750 habitants. Situé à la périphérie nord de la ville dans une zone qui s’est extrêmement densifiée, c’est une quartier populaire et familial, avec une mixité culturelle assez diversifiée.

Durant leur séjour, les 2 artistes ont pu partager plusieurs moments privilégiés avec les habitants, dont notamment :

Un atelier d’écriture, destiné à créer avec la population la phrase mentionnée sur la fresque
Une conférence dans la salle polyvalente du quartier, pour mieux connaitre les 2 artistes et leur parcours de vie
La réalisation d’un mur participatif et d’ateliers d’art abstrait avec les habitants volontaires dans le centre de loisirs du quartier

« La Côte d’Azur est réputée pour être «bling-bling », l’argent et les belles choses sont présentes partout… Dans la ville de Saint-Raphaël il y a peu de quartiers populaires, et c’est ici que nous avons voulu représenter le plus gros bouquet de fleurs que personne ne pourra jamais s’offrir, ni offrir à quelqu’un. L’argent contribue au bonheur pour certains mais c’est aussi avec les choses simples que nous pouvons y accéder. Nous voyons dans ce bouquet assez anarchique, un mélange de plein de fleurs différentes, une cohérence assez anarchique, des vies entassées et entremêlées mais tellement belles. La photo d’origine est un cliché argentique en noir et blanc. On y retrouve le temps qui passe, la beauté de la tristesse et des choses parfois figées et mortes. Ce bouquet de fleurs coupées évoque des souvenirs, les souvenirs qui s’entassent. Les couleurs sont belles, mais on a grandi en noir et blanc.

La phrase écrite au-dessus de l’œuvre est pour eux très importante car elle parle directement du quotidien de la vie. Elle fait référence au fait que le monde de communication à outrance dans lequel nous vivons n’est pas souvent le reflet de la réalité.

Anecdote de l’artiste lors de la réalisation de l’oeuvre :

Nous sommes venus à saint Raphaël 8 jours complets en plein mois de juin avec des températures estivales, et aussi bizarre que cela puisse paraître, les maillots de bain sont restés froissés au fond des valises. A part l’hôtel et le quartier de l’Aspé, nous n’avons pas vu grand-chose. Nous n’avons pas aperçu le moindre bout de plage ni de mer.

Duo of street artists and friends, Paul and Rémi, passionate about photography, sensitive and complementary, have been practicing urban art since 2007. They gradually moved away from certain graffiti codes, while retaining some of their features. Their work has continued to evolve and now combines abstraction, figuration and typography. The search for authenticity, love, closeness and exchange is an essential point in their creative process. They attach great importance to representing and painting ordinary people: "The ordinary is in our eyes extraordinary!"

The fresco was created in permanent connection with the inhabitants of the neighborhood, notably with the support and assistance of the Social and Cultural Center of Aspé. Built in the years 1975 and rehabilitated in 2004, this district has 198 housing units for about 750 inhabitants. Located on the northern outskirts of the city in an area that has become extremely densely populated, it is a popular and family neighborhood, with a fairly diverse cultural mix.

During their stay, the two artists were able to share several special moments with the locals, including :

A writing workshop, intended to create with the population the sentence mentioned on the fresco
A conference in the neighborhood’s multipurpose room, to better know the two artists and their life paths;
The creation of a participatory wall and abstract art workshops with volunteers from the community in the neighborhood’s leisure center.

"The Côte d'Azur is renowned for being 'bling-bling', money and beautiful things are present everywhere... In the city of Saint-Raphaël, there are few working-class neighborhoods, and it is here that we wanted to represent the largest bouquet of flowers that no one will ever be able to offer themselves or someone else. Money contributes to happiness for some, but it is also with simple things that we can access it. We see in this rather anarchic bouquet, a mixture of many different flowers, a rather anarchic coherence, lives crowded and intertwined but so beautiful. The original photo is a black and white film shot. We find time passing, the beauty of sadness and things sometimes frozen and dead. This bouquet of cut flowers evokes memories, memories that pile up. The colors are beautiful, but we grew up in black and white.

The sentence written above the work is very important to them because it speaks directly of the daily life. It refers to the fact that the world of excessive communication in which we live is not often a reflection of reality.

Anecdote of the artist during the creation of the work :

We came to Saint Raphaël for 8 full days in the middle of June with summer temperatures, and as strange as it may seem, the swimsuits remained wrinkled at the bottom of the suitcases. Apart from the hotel and the Aspé district, we didn’t see much. We didn’t notice any beach or sea.
