This vibrant mural, titled "SOKODOKO—Nakano—", was created by artist Michinori Maru (丸倫徳) and completed on March 31, 2023. Located under the pedestrian passageway at the North Exit of Nakano Station, it was painted as part of the Nakano Mural Project. The artwork beautifully weaves together Nakano’s past, present, and future into a single, continuous landscape. On the left, a large dog symbolizes the historic Oinusamasuji (the official Edo-period dog shelters once located in Nakano). The central and right sections showcase iconic local landmarks, including the famous Nakano Sunplaza building, bustling traditional shopping streets (shotengai), and a vision of future high-rise developments. By blending historical motifs with modern street culture—like skateboarders and futuristic elements—the mural captures Nakano's unique and evolving identity.
