Welcome to North Loop

Description

from the artist via a reddit post:

This is my mural, it was designed with input from the community and it faces what will be a public park that the developers donated to the neighborhood. The design is inspired by the aviation history of the site, which was Doc Halie’s airstrip during WW2. While it was mostly a private airstrip there was a pilot named Mildred Inks Davidson aka Millie’s that did some training there as she was preparing to join the W.A.S.P , which were the first female pilots to ever be part of the US military. The history of the W.A.S.P is very interesting, and it had mostly been erased until a few years ago when the US government finally recognized the brave work those women did.

The original concept was to honor Millie’s legacy, but the community feedback we got was that they would like the mural to also reference the neighborhood and what it represents today. So I designed it to be present day, a young woman walking by the North Loop vintage shops. She is wearing a WW2 bomber jacket, perhaps the same that “Millie” would have worn. There are different things on the shop windows that reference different things, such as I Luv Video. This was all hand painted with spray paint.
