In 2017 the artist Boran Burchardt gilded a house wall in Veddel with leaf-gold to draw attention to the socially disadvantaged district. The Veddel is a trafitional working-class neighbourhood. The red brick facades are wide spread in many districts in Hamburg. There were plenty of critical voices regarding the costs (85,000 € paid by the culture ministry of Hamburg from the title Art in Public Spaces). The residents also mentioned: We are diverse and colorful. Not just plain gold.
