Water tank mural by Tim Honey and Aimee McCartney in Toolangi.
The Victorian country town of Toolangi is derived from the Taungurung word Dhulangi meaning ‘stringy bark’, referring to the high mountain ash which dominate the area. Early settlers interpreted the word 'Dhulangi' as Toolangi and that is how the town was named.
Contour lines on the mural highlight a landscape that has remained in place for generations. Toolangi Castella Community House and the nearby hall are places where community comes together, gathering places where all are welcomed and acceptance of different perspectives builds community cohesion and strength.
