“The Roots of the Future” is a mural by Sicilian artist Giulio Rosk, featuring (and quite literally the face of) actress Ester Pantano, created as part of the Itinerario delle Radici (Roots Itinerary) project by il Made in Sicily (Giovanni Callea, Davide Morici)

The work was unveiled in Piana degli Albanesi on May 16, 2025, with a formal inauguration and a Greek‑Byzantine blessing

The mural depicts a young woman in traditional Arbëreshë dress holding a tree with its roots visible. Below her is the Albanian flag; above, the Made in Sicily symbol—meant to convey the unity of Sicilians across the world .

The piece is a tribute to the strength of cultural roots: the Arbëreshë community in Sicily has preserved language and identity for centuries, yet has also integrated with local society. The mural looks forward, with Rosk stating, “a strong connection to our roots is the foundation from which to explore the world”.
