The “Zgierz Open” mural depicts three places of worship from the historic city of Zgierz: the Roman Catholic Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria, the Evangelical-Augsburg Church of Divine Providence (destroyed during World War II), and the synagogue (also destroyed during World War II).
The three places of worship symbolize the city’s past, shaped by different cultures and followers of different faiths. The mural also depicts historic buildings that disappeared from the cityscape as a result of the wartime destruction.
