Oru Minka — Maison Dufour

Description

==========

Artwork created for Inspire Festival 2026.

Stoul: “For this project on the Maison Dufour, a historic building situated in the heart of the village of Bouville, I devised a geometric composition inspired by my ORU (Urban Renewal Project), in which straight lines and folded forms interact with traditional Norman architecture. It is a way of bringing together heritage and contemporary creation, where the old becomes contemporary.”

Inspire: “This work by Stoul weaves a subtle dialogue between rural heritage and contemporary creation.
The title combines ORU, a series the artist has been developing since 2013, with Minka, the term for traditional Japanese houses. Spanning references to urban regeneration and the concept of the ‘fold’, this vocabulary runs through the entire composition, drawing on origami, geometry and the transformation of forms.
Inspired by the architecture of the Maison Dufour, the mural extends and reinterprets the half-timbering through geometric black lines, the artist’s signature style. The forms fold, interlock and unfold across the façade, creating a dialogue between the site’s history and contemporary expression.
Colour, derived from the colour wheel, accompanies this movement. It flows like energy through the composition, linking past and present in a single sweep.”
