I painted this mural as part of the very first Tauranga Street Art Festival. This abstract mural was all about movement, texture and playful energy. With full creative freedom, I leaned into my love of shape, colour and intuitive composition, starting the design through cut-out collage and layered forms.
The wall itself played a big role in shaping the concept, responding to a diagonal recess became the axis for flipping colours and intersecting elements. Organic shapes inspired by the local pōhutukawa trees ground the mural in place, creating a subtle connection to Tauranga Moana.
A 70sqm wall, three days, a great crew and a lot of coffee later, this one came together beautifully and is easily one of my favourite murals to date.
