The Held & Menke dormitory looks back on more than 100 years of history. It is now run by the fourth generation of the family, the descendants of the founders Held & Menke.

Mrs. Maria Held founded the company in 1902 as a manufactured goods store. From 1908 on, she ran the business as a widow with 3 children. It laid the foundation for a good name, quality and reliability.

The Gallergraben is part of the outer ring of fortifications, which was built from the 15th century onwards to protect farmers and vineyards. This moat, together with its defensive wall and towers, showed its steadfastness especially during the Thirty Years' War, in which the city was unsuccessfully besieged by Swedish soldiers in 1632 and 1634.
