At the centre of this vibrant work by MC Baldassari is a large yellow lily, surrounded by purple flowers resembling crocuses or saffron blossoms.
The artwork was created on a freestanding panel in the historic cloister of the Abbaye Saint-Martin in Laon, France. Its contemporary, colourful imagery creates an engaging contrast with the surrounding historic architecture.
Originally from France and now based in Montreal, MC Baldassari (Marie-Clémentine Baldassari) studied industrial design before establishing herself as an independent artist and illustrator. She began working on larger surfaces and creating murals in 2012. Her artistic practice combines contemporary urban influences with illustration, drawing inspiration from nature, animals and human figures.
Baldassari participated in the fifth International Urban Arts Festival in Laon in 2026, an edition that placed particular emphasis on female artists from around the world. Alongside her own artistic contribution, she led creative workshops attended by nearly 300 children.
