Bourdain sadly took his own life in June 2018 while filming in France. In 2019, American chefs Eric Ripert and Jose Andreas proposed a worldwide commemoration of Bourdain’s birthday and celebration of his life annually on 25 June. 

Chef Peter Lloyd, owner of restaurant Sticky Mango, is one of many who were inspired by Bourdain, and in his honour commissioned a mural by street artist Jerome Davenport on the front of his restaurant.
