Next to the railway underpass on the side of the Nomadic Community Gardens, artist Safeyah Aljabouri painted a self-portrait in which she appears to be spray-painting over Sandro Botticelli’s famous painting 'The Birth of Venus'.
Safeyah Aljabouri is an artist from Manchester who shares videos on social media showing the creative process behind her artworks. This piece, 'Fate', from 2024, forms part of her series ‘Realism x Graffiti’ (or ‘Between Worlds’)
For this, she replicates iconic masterpieces from art history (in this case by Botticelli), which she enhances with spray-paint textures, bright pop-art colours and graffiti to demonstrate that the world of classical art and street culture can coexist.
