Venesluis is a Moluccan neighbourhood in Hoogeveen, consisting of a Dutch and Moluccan community. The artist portrayed the Moluccan bird of paradise (Cendrawashi) here and the Dutch sparrow. Both with their own identity. The Bird of Paradise is known for its beautiful feathers and special mating rituals.
In this time of great diversity and polarization, the trick is to look for our similarities instead of looking for our differences.
“Always a privilege to capture our heritage with my own signature”, says the artist, whose specialism is a combination of realism and the abstract, always portrayed majestically.
